This election cycle, I really didn't talk about politics that much on social media, and only occasionally on my blog. If you look back, I predicted that Trump would be weeded out as the primaries went on, but that didn't happen. Most people got that one wrong.

What did we learn from the 2008 Democratic Primary that is relevant in 2016? We learned that even in the Democratic Party. A party that is supposedly more progressive than the GOP, they selected a black man with a Muslim name over a woman, and that was my main reasoning for why Hillary Clinton would not win in 2016.

As a progressive, I absolutely knew that the Democratic Party had abandoned the poor and working class people who were once their base, but I had, in the previous months, found myself laughing at the same things the over-confident Clinton supporters were laughing at when they heard them. One group of people who were definitely living in the bubble were the people in the Democratic National Committee, as well as everyone in the Clinton campaign, and the candidate herself. They were absolutely certain that her thirty years of experience in public service meant that she had been thoroughly vetted, and that having a husband who was a former two-term president, would be a huge benefit. What we know now is that those thirty years of public service made her, in many peoples' eyes, an untrustworthy political establishment insider, who was corrupt, and not to be trusted. Her husband, despite being a successful former president, had a history of womanizing, and the Trump people exploited that at every opportunity. Every time someone brought that up in any discussion I was having, I would point out that his name wasn't on the ticket, but in all reality, it's kind of hard to try to call out Trump on his examples alleged sexual assault, when the Democratic candidate's husband has a troubled history in this area as well. So at the end of the day, those thirty years of experience she had, turned out to be thirty years of baggage, and her husband ended up being a heavy boat anchor, threatening to sink her ship at the mere mention of his name. Perhaps Mr. Clinton is one reason why so many white females went for Trump, and not Hillary.

As the campaign went on, we had the DNC email leak. Some hacker or hackers had broken into the DNC and released a bunch of internal communications relevant to the Clinton campaign. One of the things revealed in those emails was that the DNC had been favoring Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders during the primaries. Now I have no idea how often they did this, what they did exactly, and to what degree, but for a candidate who already had a credibility problem, this was not good. And yes, I know that Bernie never had a lead at any time during the primaries, but who knows what would have happened if the DNC had played fairly.
